Privacy notice

Who we are

This site is run by Commitshark Innovation Hub Limited, a software studio based in Nigeria. We are the data controller for the personal information described here, which means we decide why it is collected and what happens to it. Our company registration number with the Corporate Affairs Commission is RC 8767484, so you can confirm we are a real registered entity rather than taking this page's word for it. Because we are established in Nigeria and take enquiries from the United Kingdom and Europe, both the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and, for readers in those regions, UK and EU data protection law apply to us.

What we collect, and why

There are three ways this site can receive information about you. Nothing else on the site asks for anything.

• The enquiry form: your name and email address, plus your phone number, company name, the service you are asking about, an indicative budget and timeline, and your message, if you fill those in.

  Why: To reply to your enquiry and, if it goes further, to scope and quote the work.

  Our basis for holding it: Our legitimate interest in answering a business enquiry you started. Only the first four fields are required.

• The newsletter box in the footer: your email address.

  Why: To send the occasional article when there is something worth saying. There is no drip sequence.

  Our basis for holding it: Your consent, given when you tick the box. You can withdraw it at any time and it costs you nothing.

• Analytics: which pages are viewed, the site you arrived from, an approximate country, and the browser and device type.

  Why: To see which pages are worth writing and where readers lose interest.

  Our basis for holding it: Our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used. No cookies are set and no IP address is stored.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies at all, not even a preference cookie. That is why you have never seen a cookie banner here. Pageviews are counted by umami, an analytics tool we host ourselves at umami.eventor.com.ng. It does not use cookies, does not build a profile of you, and does not store your IP address. Nothing on this site is loaded from a third-party server either. The typefaces are not fetched from a font CDN, so opening a page here does not report your IP address to Google or to any other company.

Who else handles it

We do not sell your details, and we do not pass them to anyone for marketing. Three services process them so that this site can work.

• Formspree, Inc. (United States). Receives every enquiry and newsletter submission and forwards it to us by email. It stores submissions on our behalf until we delete them.
• Our hosting provider (Wherever the site is hosted). Serves this website. Like any web server, it processes the connection data needed to deliver a page to you.
• Our own analytics instance (Self-hosted at umami.eventor.com.ng). Counts pageviews without cookies. We run it ourselves, so pageview data is not sent to a third-party analytics company.

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, your details leave those regions when you contact us: they reach us in Nigeria, and our form processor stores them in the United States. We pick processors that offer written data processing terms, and those terms are what the transfer relies on. Ask us and we will send you the current terms for any processor named above.

How long we keep it

• Enquiries, and anything sent with them

  Deleted 24 months after we last hear from you. If you ask us to delete it sooner, we will.

• Newsletter addresses

  Kept until you unsubscribe. Every message carries a one-click way out, and the address is deleted when you use it.

• Analytics pageviews

  Not stored against you. There is no profile and no identifier, so there is nothing personal to delete.

Your rights

If you are in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area or Nigeria, you can ask us to do any of the following, and we will respond within one month:

• Show you what we hold about you, and give you a copy.
• Correct anything that is wrong.
• Delete it, and we will do so unless we are legally required to keep it.
• Stop using it for something specific, such as the newsletter.
• Object to us processing it at all, where we are relying on our legitimate interest.
• Send it to you, or to another company, in a portable format.

To use any of these, email info@commitshark.org. You do not need to give a reason, and it costs nothing.

If you are not happy

Tell us first and we will try to fix it. If we do not, you can complain to a regulator:

• United Kingdom: the Information Commissioner's Office
• Nigeria: the Nigeria Data Protection Commission

If you are elsewhere in the European Economic Area, you can complain to the supervisory authority in your own country instead.

Changes, and how to reach us

If this notice changes in a way that affects you, the date at the top changes with it. We do not quietly widen what we collect.
